Wellington pursued his primary and secondary education in Lagos, Nigeria. He furthered his tertiary education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA, where he earned a scholarship.
While studying, he initiated the record label Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2002. Additionally, Wellington worked at GlobalSpec during this period.
In 2009, he returned to Nigeria from the United States and established his record label in Lagos. Wellington played a key role in signing artists like Niyola, Shaydee, Skales, and Wizkid to the E.M.E label.
In 2005, he released his debut studio album, โBack in the Building,โ with the debut single โEbute Metta.โ Furthermore, Wellington contributed by writing the first theme song for Etisalat Nigeria titled โ0809ja for life.โ

In 2012 and 2013, Wellingtonโs focus shifted to his album โR&BW.โ The day after Valentineโs Day in 2013, he launched the album with a concert called the โGrand Love Concertโ at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event featured various artists, including Iyanya and Waje. The albumโs first two singles were โLowkeyโ and โYes/No.โ
In 2017, a significant development occurred with the dissolution of E.M.E (Empire Mates Entertainment). Wellington, in February 2018, announced that E.M.E would no longer function as a record label but would transform into a talent management company.
The rebranded company would focus on creative marketing, advertising, PR, and brand events. Wellingtonโs wife, Adesua Etomi, along with DJ Xclusive, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, and Tolu โToolzโ Oniru, were among the first clients of the revamped entity.

In 2017, Wellington participated in the initiation of a significant collaborative art piece known as Iyasile Naa or The Legacy.
Transitioning into politics, on 11 November 2018, Banky W declared his intention to run for the Lagosโ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeriaโs House of Representatives, aligning himself with the Modern Democratic Party formed in 2017.
Despite his efforts, Wellington faced defeat in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency Elections on 23 February 2019, losing to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress.
Ahead of the 2023 general election, Banky W made headlines by announcing his switch from the Modern Democratic Party to the Peoples Democratic Party.
He sought the partyโs ticket once again to contest for the Lagosโ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeriaโs House of Representatives.
In June 2022, he successfully secured the Peoples Democratic Party ticket to represent the party in the 2023 election.
However, the electoral outcome on 25th February 2023 didnโt favor Banky W, as the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Attah Thaddeus, emerged victorious for the Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria.
Despite this setback, Banky W expressed gratitude, acknowledging the accomplishments achieved during the campaign.
In an interview following the announcement of the results, he accepted the outcome declared by INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) and stated, โI feel very grateful, even in defeat, because of the things we were able to accomplish.โ
Personal life
In his personal life, Wellington entered matrimony with Adesua Etomi in a traditional ceremony on 19 November 2017.
The couple then had their white wedding in South Africa on 25 November 2017. In 2017, he underwent a successful skin cancer surgery on his shoulder.
Welcoming a new addition to their family, Banky W and Adesua welcomed a son in early 2021. The couple managed to keep the pregnancy a secret, surprising many with the news of the babyโs arrival.
