Throughout the early 2000s, Harper primarily focused on songwriting, creating tracks for well-known artists.
Her credits include Christina Milian’s “Peanut Butter & Jelly,” Charlotte Church’s “Moodswings (To Come at Me Like That),” Aretha Franklin’s “Put You Up on Game,” Pussycat Dolls’ “Painted Windows,” and Ciara’s “Pucker Up.” She also featured on songs such as Rasheeda’s “Pack Ya Bags” from “GA Peach” and Timati’s “Sexy Bitch” on “The Boss”.
In 2008, she collaborated with Lady Gaga on the song “Kaboom,” produced by Jim Jonsin, though it remains unreleased. Additionally, Harper contributed to Maino’s “Don’t Say Nothing,” Three 6 Mafia’s “Shake My,” Ciara’s “Kiss My Swag,” and Trina’s “Let Them Hoes Fight”.
Her music was also featured on soundtracks, such as “Stronger” for “Phat Girlz” in 2006 and “Big Spender” for “Confessions of a Shopaholic” in 2009. Harper later appeared on Trina’s 2010 track “Let Them Hoes Fight,” a song co-produced by Lady Gaga, who was originally set to guest perform on it.
2009–2012: Diddy – Dirty Money
In 2009, Kalenna Harper became a founding member of Diddy – Dirty Money, alongside Sean Combs and former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard.
The group’s first single, “Angels,” launched in November 2009, featuring a posthumous appearance by The Notorious B.I.G., with a music video directed by Hype Williams.
That same day, the group released another track, “Love Come Down,” which ultimately didn’t make it onto their album “Last Train to Paris”.
A demo of the song “Hurt” was leaked online on November 13, 2009; it was later reworked as “Loving You No More” and included a feature from Drake. The group then released their third single, “Hello Good Morning” featuring T.I., on March 30, 2010.
November 2010 marked a high point for the group with the success of the album’s fourth single, “Coming Home” (featuring Skylar Grey), which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of that year’s most popular hip-hop tracks.
The success of “Coming Home” helped propel the album “Last Train to Paris”, which was released in December 2010 and peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200, receiving generally positive critical reviews.
Diddy – Dirty Money also performed at the 2010 BET Awards and received a nomination for the BET Award for Best Group. Around this time, Harper also co-wrote the song “Bionic” for Christina Aguilera’s album titled “Bionic” released in 2010.
In 2012, the group disbanded, leading Harper to focus on her solo work. She released her debut solo mixtape, “Chamber of Secrets”, in June of that year.
