Early life and music career
Al B. Sure! is the son of Albert Joseph Brown II, a nuclear medicine technologist and Cassandra Brown, an accountant. During his time at Mount Vernon High School in New York, he was a standout football quarterback.
However, Brown turned down an athletic scholarship to the University of Iowa to follow his passion for music. In 1987, he was chosen by Quincy Jones as the inaugural winner of the Sony Innovators Talent Search.
This led to a fruitful collaboration with Jones, including his notable contribution to the platinum-selling 1990 hit “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)” from Jones’ double-platinum album “Back on the Block”.
